first_imgDead & Company played two outstanding shows at Citi Field this past weekend. With special guest Donna Jean Godchaux by their side, the band worked through an epic Saturday night performance that saw the band play beloved songs like “Shakedown Street”, “Althea”, and “Dark Star”, and returned for a rockin’ second night that featured “Help On The Way” -> “Slipknot!”, “Bertha”, and “Goin’ Down The Road Feelin’ Bad”, which featured bass player Oteil Burbridge on lead vocals (even if only for one verse) for the first time with Dead & Company.Burbridge is having an excellent time in Dead & Company, in general. His ultimate positive energy has been a joyous thing to watch, and with each show he seems to slide more and more into a comfortable, jam-leading role for the band. You can find him smiling wide during almost every song, and his new lightning bolt hairdo and new-found love for the Grateful Dead universe were on full display at Citi Field this past weekend.Oteil loved the shows so much, he has actually released a few videos of Sunday’s performance from his own personal stash. With a camera set up side stage, just next to his usual stage right stomping grounds, Oteil recorded and published three videos on his youtube channel that gives the viewer a new perspective on Dead & Company’s supreme musical communication. Originally reported by JamBase, these three videos show a band that is fluently speaking it’s own language, especially in the knowing glances between Oteil and John Mayer, who has shared in Burbridge’s ridiculously positive on-stage energy.Check out the videos of “St. Stephen”, “Bertha”, and “Black Throated Wind” below, and witness a close-up of the the high-energy, positive-vibed playing that makes Dead & Company so unique.“St. Stephen”“Bertha”“Black Throated Wind”last_img
