Man caught in armed Garda sting in Ramelton is arrested

first_imgA man caught in a dramatic armed Garda sting on Ramelton bridge has been arrested in Northern Ireland.Detectives from the PSNI’s Serious Crime Branch today arrested a 41-year-old Damien McLaughlin in Armagh following his extradition from the Republic of Ireland.This follows a ruling by the High Court in Dublin on December 2 to extradite him to Northern Ireland for trial on charges in connection with the murder of David Black. Following his extradition the man was arrested on 4 warrants for offenses of aiding and abetting murder; membership of a proscribed organisation; commissioning and instigating preparatory acts of terrorism; and committing and assisting acts of terrorism.He appeared before Armagh Magistrates Court today and was remanded in custody until January 12.Before he was arrested, it is understood that McLaughlin was hiding out for several days in West Donegal.He was arrested as he traveled from the direction of Milford when armed detectives blocked both sides of the bridge as McLaughlin and another man traveled towards Letterkenny.
